Why the Name BUTTWHACKERS?
In the late 1980s, fish filleters were given the nickname "whackers" because they literally "whacked" (or filleted) halibut. Homer, Alaska is known as the halibut fishing capital of the world, and gradually fisherman came to use the nickname "Butts" as a shorthand to refer to the species, halibut. Through combining the two nicknames, Buttwhackers was born.

Buttwhackers was established in 2003 to provide the dock and fillet services to charters and independently owned boats. Still today, we provide fisherman and captains alike with a location to unload and hang their catch, take photos, and of course, the show of 'whacking butts'.
